  1. Hey guys, It's been a while since I participated in the Smart Mobile Studio contest last year. I know I've been rather silent, but now I have some really big news... I decided that today was the right day for the announcement (since it's Pi Day.) My new web site onlinemodeler.com can probably best be described as a combination of a web portal and a 3D modeling tool (where models are generated through a very simplistic modeling language.) I hope that some of you will register and try to learn how to build your own models -- there are still a few topics missing in the docume
  2. Hello everyone! I'm incredibly honored -- and to be honest, after seeing Dan's entry, I didn't really expect to win. A tablet is going to be immensely useful as I continue working on my Android app, which is aimed particularly towards digital artists. Btw, will the other contest entries also be published? (I'm a bit curious, since I've only seen one of them so far...)
  3. Great to hear things are happening behind the scenes. I was once involved in a programming contest where they never announced the winners. Presumably the prizes went to the employees themselves...
  4. Yes, it's not very pretty to have to add the "patience please" notifications, but on the other hand I thought it would be nice to demonstrate that it was indeed generated by the code I submitted and not by some other tool. I should probably have added music as well, but I wanted to compose something of my own in that case. My variant of AO does become kind of overexposed when there's a lot of vertices in the same position (like in the ferns scene.) I have some ideas of how to resolve it, but I didn't have much time work on this. Maybe SSAO would have worked out better, but I thought it
  5. What is the proper way to use the <code> tag? Couldn't figure it out.
  6. Btw, just to give you an idea of how the CFDG language works, here is the code for the DNA spiral: startshape DNA rule DNA{ 60*{rz 15 z 1.4 w 0.02} X{z -30 rx 90} } rule ATOM{ SPHERE{RADIUS 1 rz 90} } rule X{ ATOM{z -5.0 u 1 v 1} ATOM{z 5.0} MOVETO{z -5.0 s 0.25} LINETO{z 5.0 s 0.25 u 0.25 w 0.5 v 0.5} }
  7. I thought I'd post my entry here as well. There was a lot of ideas that I had to ditch, because I was running out of time. I was originally going to implement Screen-Space Ambient Occlusion, but it became a bit complicated with WebGL, so in the end I decided to invent my own AO algorithm that I call "Vertex Window Ambient Occlusion". However, that will only work if the browser supports the WebGL depth texture extension. Check out my entry here: http://www.centaurix.com/biotopia The second part of the demo is my own extension of the CFDG language in three dimensions (see http://co
